Project 2, Progress Post 4

Fusion is incredible. I'm so happy with how the drink coasters turned out. I hit a few bugs along the way, but I'm thankful I didn't have to do a another total restart. At the very least, I can say I'm a pro with the spline tool and cutting into objects. Game of Thrones; House Sigils Star Trek; Spock The end tweaks were difficult because the faces didn't want to push/pull after being cut into, so I ultimately adjusted dimensions by making use of combining objects with the intercept feature. Dragons Phoenix on Fire If printing these goes half as well as creating, I'd say it was a successful project. Here's hoping Meshmixer doesn't ruin anything while fixing the mesh. Journey Portal Coaster Dimensions: Diameter, 4.4 in /// Height, about 0.4 in Holder Dimensions: Inner Diameter minimum, 4.75 in /// Outer Diameter, about 5 in /// Height, 4 in /// Bottom thickness, 0.2 in Coaster Color(s), will be printed in red or blue. Fusion 360 is so great! Seriously, I like this program and I finally feel like I'm on a roll with this project. The designs are turning out so cool. The only problem is my computer is struggling with the what I'm asking for it to do (ie is lagging badly). But, I'm saving my progress a lot and the system hasn't given up yet so I'm really happy.

Let me tell you this; modeling takes crazy amounts of time. Maybe I just didn't notice it with the teacup, or this project is more tedious, but it is taking so long to complete. That being said, I think I'm going to change a lot of the design and make a lot of the details into patterns that I can auto-generate via Meshmixer. I may be asking for trouble in using Maya to model, and then fix with Meshmixer as I still don't get along with the later program, but I'm holding onto the thought that even in failure there is learning. So, here's to learning.

Artist Research 2

Figure 1, Tampa Bay Hotel Artist: Jorge Orta Website:  https://www.studio-orta.com/en/artworks/serie/32/Light  Light art has always been something that has fascinated me. Maybe it's the sheer size which this art takes form, or maybe it is the poetic archetype of light and dark coming together for the sake of beauty. Who knows? But, I do know this artist is really cool (Plus he uses the coolest places to show his art, see figure 1). Figure 2,  El Zocalo I can't say I totally understand the point Jorge Orta is trying to make. It is very abstract and his one fault is the protrusions of the building don't help the clarity of the scene. However, I did read his bio to find out it connects to his strong interest in politics, injustice, and revolution. I know those are strong motivators and make total sense when explaining why he projects light shows in the areas and buildings he does. They all have a common theme of cultural significance and in places which have

So I really like Fusion 360. I'm impressed how easy to use it is, all the features are designed with explanations on how to use them, and I find that to be really genius. I don't have much of a need for tutorials and I've been able to develop a work flow really easily. Maybe I'll change my mind when I get to doing the detail for my model(s), but I feel this will be much easier in the long run than Maya in terms of modeling. Chinese dragon, design 1

Fusion 360 and Meshmixer Assignment

With Fusion 360 Getting Fusion 360 to work wasn't too difficult. Especially with the video, I managed to create the shape I had in mind. However, Meshmixer didn't like my shape. At all. The software crashed every time the pattern was put into duel edges, and every other setting didn't get the pattern but looked like the model was exploding. Not super sure what was happening, but at least I got Fusion to behave. With Meshmixer
