Project 2, Process Post 2

Let me tell you this; modeling takes crazy amounts of time. Maybe I just didn't notice it with the teacup, or this project is more tedious, but it is taking so long to complete. That being said, I think I'm going to change a lot of the design and make a lot of the details into patterns that I can auto-generate via Meshmixer. I may be asking for trouble in using Maya to model, and then fix with Meshmixer as I still don't get along with the later program, but I'm holding onto the thought that even in failure there is learning. So, here's to learning.

Teacup Update 2

Not sure if I mentioned it before, but the handle was the most difficult part to this project. I had to redo it twice because it continuously tried to become wobbly on me and so I kept having to change the pivot point of the model. Also, there were ridges on inside and outside of the handle, plus changes  in thickness at various points. The rear view in these screenshots displays these qualities really well, as well as the fact I originally built the handle at an angle mistakingly. It was a painful mistake to fix using edges and vertices and probably the worst part of the model to recreate. Additionally, the unevenness of lip was difficult. However, this feature wasn't difficult technically, but instead visually difficult because it never looked right besides in the pre-made camera views. It also was challenging to make sure the edges were at the right height and placement to give the wobbly illusion despite that the top view makes it obvious that the design is actually pret...

"Landscapes of Memory..." Reading Response

I really appreciated reading this piece because it brought to light a view of the debated which I've hardly heard about or understood. I never thought about how seeing these figures or events being portrayed in positive or unrealistically ideal fashions could influence a viewer. As a response, I am still left unsure there is a right way with how to deal with the situation In my personal experience, I heard the problems people were having with these sculptures was merely rooted in the fact that they represented people and events as they were seen at the time, despite that it no longer follows the commonly accepted beliefs of the present. I understood this problem then to be emphasized by the plaques that were originally created to define the monuments for viewers with words that followed the old ideas. Therefor, I thought the problems were more in the need for the plaques to be updated with clauses that may or may not preserve the original intent, while building on to state the cu...
